Like any fashion “rule”, the races have evolved and it is becoming more and more acceptable to wear fashion trends, while keeping a few race day rules in mind.
Spring racing season if officially here. While I don’t condone horse racing, I do love the fashion and seeing what the latest trends for the season are. This is a time to embrace the best of spring; think florals, lace and pastel hues.
Like any fashion “rule”, the races have evolved and it is becoming more and more acceptable to wear fashion trends, while keeping a few race day rules in mind. Like most events common sense applies and I know you are all a savvy bunch and know that that means no ultra short hems, crazy low cuts et cetera, et cetera.
I’ve only been to the Sydney races twice – both times I have worn white, so I thought it was fitting to show you a white look today. While typing this, I just remembered the time I went to the races in a small country town circa 2006. Everyone there was so drunk and much like the drunkest women at Melbourne Cup, most people were carrying their shoes in their hands by the end – that is not a hyperbole.
Don’t be that girl. Please.
While we’re on the subject of footwear, do keep in mind that a thicker heel with ankle straps is a more practical option – stilettos after a few too many champagnes are not a good idea. Please do not go near those heel covers either. There is nothing worse than spending $$ on a beautiful pair of shoes, only to cover the heel with those ugly ass heel covers.
Derby Day is my favourite day when it comes to race season – it’s easily the most classic and elegant event on the racing calendar and I love the monochromatic, black and white dress-code. If you’re wondering what to wear any other day or if colour isn’t your jam, opt for head-to-toe black or white as a reliable go-to – it’s timeless and you won’t look back thinking “what did I wear“.
Much like my Forever New dress today, we can expect plenty of 70’s style silhouettes again this season, with fluted sleeves a must have for an on trend. I am a sucker for a fluted sleeve. Metallics and off-the-shoulder is also going to be huge this season.
Accessorise with statement earrings, luxe jewellery, a clutch that fits your essentials and a classic head piece. I am not normally one for fascinators, but I think little headband or a minimal headpiece can be super cute! See below for the ones I love!
What do you love to wear race season or when you dress up for a special event?
SOME OF MY FAVOURITES
I am loving soft pinks and maroons, black and white for race season
