These are my three go to shades at the moment; they’re perfect for any season. Including an amazing lip gloss with a formula that doesn’t feel as sticky as the ones I used as a over excitable, Britney Spears loving teen. In fact, I think of this one as the grown up version of lip gloss. It’s the type you can wear to a business meeting without looking like your 9 year old niece.
When it comes to lip colours, lip gloss and what I love to use, it has always been a cycle. I would go through phases as a teenager and I would stick to one Lip Smacker or Chapstick and that’s all I would use. I would also go through phases of not using anything at all. I guess you can say this mentality has also been how I am as an adult. I go through loving certain formulas, certain brands and certain products. Then, on the complete opposite end of the spectrum, for no reason at all, I will stop wearing anything on my lips.
At the moment, you have definitely caught me in an obsessed phase. I have even gone back to loving gloss, which I find particularly interesting considering I don’t think I have touched the stuff since circa 2007.
Even though I have been using gloss again, the stickiness gets to me. Like really, reaalllly gets to me. I hate how my entire head of hair gets instantly stuck on your lips the second you apply it. The good thing though about my favourite one at the moment, is the formula is great and doesn’t feel as sticky as the ones I used as a over excitable, Britney Spears loving teen. In fact, I think of this one as the grown up version of lip gloss. It’s the type you can wear to a business meeting without looking like your 9 year old niece.
*no room for sparkles here*
At the moment I am a staunch supporter of these three colours: an orange based red, a great nude matte velvety finish and a nude gloss.
Isn’t the evolution of makeup interesting? I remember being a teen thinking “I will never wear lipstick“. The formulas seemed drying and they just didn’t seem like something you could wear everyday. This could, however, be because most of the lipstick in my house as a child would’ve been dried out as my Mum didn’t ever wear it. Over the years lipstick has made a big come back and maybe that’s why gloss has taken a backseat, but I think this will all change soon – sophisticated glossiness will definitely be making a come back.
MY FAVOURITE THREE
Orange based red: I love this for day or night. If I am wearing this I feel so polished and fresh. There is something about a bold lip that brings even the most casual look together. The shade ABLAZE (A26) by MAC Cosmetics is one I have been reaching for the most lately (as seen on my lips above!).
Nude Matte Lipstick: This is definitely my most worn colour. I go between this By Terry shade and Velvet Teddy by MAC Cosmetics. It’s a no brainer and again, it makes you look polished
Nude gloss: I have really been digging the Charlotte Tilbury (Colour: Seduction) formula – again it’s a sophisticated glossy and I definitely feel it’s the adult version of a gloss. Now that the weather is becoming warmer I am definitely going to be wearing more gloss. I think gloss makes your lips appear a lot more plump too as the light reflects of them. Some lipsticks, especially dark hues make my lips look smaller!
Next up I am going to start using tints, but I haven’t quite got the hang of them yet.
Do you love lipstick and gloss? What’s your favourite shades? Let me know in the comments!
PS: I dyed my hair again last week – this is the new colour! I go to Alan Buki on Oxford St Paddington, Sydney.
