Need to sweat it out and then get ready to make it to your 9 to 5 in under 60 mins? Here’s my quick and effective post-workout makeup tricks to avoid looking like a hot mess when you head back to work!

Lately I have been going to the gym an hour before I need to be at a meeting or an event so I don’t have to go out twice in one day, this means less time to fuss on my beauty routine once my workout is over. I need something quick, yet polished and be in an Uber quickly – I hate being late!! This is definitely a look for that post-workout rush when you know you only have ten minutes up your sleeve.

Today I have put together a quick beauty routine that will have you walking out of the gym looking fresh-faced with a natural glow — no one will tell that you were a hot, sweaty mess moments earlier! Thank god for that!

TOTAL TIME FOR THIS LOOK

10 minutes. 3 min shower and dressing, 7 min make-up and hair. We’re aiming for maximum impact with minimum effort.

STEP ONE

First up: 3 Minutes: Rinse quick! Clean all the bits of you that need to be clean and make sure the water is on a cool temp! Make sure your hair is in a high bun when you have a shower to avoid your hair going fluffy etc. You have ZERO time to wash your hair if you’re rushing back to work or a meeting so skip this step!

Second up: After you have finished your shower wipe your face over with cleansing wipes or make-up wipes to remove sweat, dirt etc. I love the Biore Cleansing ones and they’re super refreshing.

STEP TWO

I never wash my hair at the gym because I have the THICKEST hair in human history. Imagine if Hermione and Russel Brand had a baby – my hair is something like that. I always, always spray dry shampoo after a workout to absorb all the sweat and oils to avoid looking like a prepubescent boy or like I drenched my hair in a litre of Moroccan oil.

Brush your hair and then use dry shampoo – work with your hairs texture! I have been using the De Lorenzo Absorb and it is my favourite – it has rosehip and rice extracts in it and gives incredible volume!

STEP THREE

For my make-up at the gym I tie my hair back so I can cool down (I hate that hair on the neck feeling). These bands are the straight-up business because they don’t leave a kink in your hair. I think they are called the Lady Jane style guards.

STEP FOUR

Rose water is a must because it cools your face down quickly. The key is to minimise your redness before applying make-up and this Jurlique Rose Water is a must! I have been using it for two years now. I have been using it while it’s been hot. Annnnd before bed I spray it into the air from our fan and it feels INCREDIBLE. That started as a joke but now it feels too good to stop.

STEP FIVE

Quickly apply a mattifying base to avoid excessive shine. The L’Oreal Infallible Primer one is a great one. I use it when I know I will be out and about all day.

STEP SIX

You’ll already have a natural glow, but add a liquid highlighter so they can see you glowing from the Moon. Or something like that. I don’t even know what I am saying now. Is it dinner time?

STEP SEVEN

There is nothing worse than applying a full coverage foundation after the gym so I like to apply a BB Cream. I bought this one the other day because I read reviews on it online saying it “goes on white and then matches to your skin colour“. Uh, that is insanely cool, right? Perfectly even skin texture. If you have dry skin the finish may be a little matte for you combined with the mattifying primer, so if this is the case, skip the primer.

STEP EIGHT

concealer--make-up-tutorial-after-gym-make-up-end

Conceal and highlight at the same time because you are on a strict time schedule and we don’t have Kim Kardashian hours!

STEP NINE

benetint--make-up-tutorial-after-gym-make-up-end

Apply a cream blush or a tint like I have. Don’t use a powder – we’re going for a polished, natural, barely there look and a powder will look too “done” or “cakey”. I do like the Benetint, but I still find it difficult to use – you have to work it into the skin very quickly!

You can skip this too if you feel too flushed or like you already have good colouring!

STEP TEN

eyeshadow-charlotte-Tilbury--make-up-tutorial-after-gym-make-up-end

This velvety goodness from Charlotte Tibury Bette is incredible (gold and amber tones). It’s highly pigmented and I am pretty sure my 6 year old niece could apply this and still get it right. This product or any other cream eye-shadows are great when you’re in a rush – slick it on and you’re done. You can also use a blending brush, but in a rush fingers are fine.

STEP ELEVEN

curler--make-up-tutorial-after-gym-make-up-end

Quickly curl!

STEP TWELVE

mascara--make-up-tutorial-after-gym-make-up-end

Two coats of voluminising and lengthening mascara, so it looks like you put in more effort than you actually have. I love the Benefit They’re Real for this!

STEP THIRTEEN

A nude lip-gloss instantly makes a look come together. They’re also the easiest to apply when you’re on the run and don’t have the time to perfect a red or deep coloured lip. I have been using one from NYX lately (just a cheapy but it’s a goodie!)

DONE

If you do need to be a little more dressy though, disregard my last step with the nude lips and apply something bright and fun. If you wear bright lipstick, no matter what else you’re wearing, you’ll always look dressed up!

All you have to do now: get dressed, apply deodorant and your favorite perfume and you’re ready!

Do you have any tips for getting ready super fast after a work out?

  1. Have you tried the Nivea post shave balm (yes men’s Nivea skincare) as a primer? It is seriously so good. It soothes and calms my skin down, hydrates the dry parts and leaves such a flawless base. So cheap too!
