Introducing a new category to Substance – Substance Favourites. We will be sharing our favourite things, be it holiday destinations, beauty products, skateboards, food, restaurants… Our hope is to help you discover some new things.

We moved to Sydney exactly two months and two weeks ago. Since moving I have had a long list of cafes, restaurants, events in my head, so I thought it was time to write them all down. What I have learned is there is an endless list of places I need to try out and that Sydney-siders are more than spoiled for choice when it comes to finding places that serve up healthy, clean & nutritious food. You should know now that I love my fair share of healthy food, but I am a big believer in a well balanced life. I still treat myself to so-called “naughty” food when we’re out an about, and if you’re interested in a list of normal cafes I have been loving let me know and I’ll write that in another post.

I should note, writing this article pre-lunch was probably the worst idea I have ever had. Editing images together without drooling over my keyboard has proven difficult.

Here are my top ten, healthy places that have been suggested to me over the past 8 weeks – some I have tried and some I am yet to try. I am sure there are a lot more, so if you have any suggestions, please comment in the comment sections so we can all help each other out!

1. Kafeine

I am obsessed with their corn fritters and acai bowls. They also do great eggs. It’s a cute cafe and the staff are friendly. They also have wifi.

Location: Balmain

Address: 260 Darling St, Balmain NSW 2041, Australia

2. About Life

When I first moved to Sydney we did a massive walk around our new area and I stumbled across About Life. I went in there about three times and I was oblivious to what it was called. All I knew was I loved the self-service food boxes. There are three different sizes (all reasonably priced) and you can put anything you want in them. I like to pack half mine with salad and half with something hot and vegetarian. They also do breakfast food options for the boxes – look at the bottom right image in the above images.

About Life also do regular cafe food and they also are a fruit / vege shop and a regular health food grocer – so they basically are your one stop shop and I am obsessed.

Locations: Bondi Junction, Double Bay, Rozelle, Cammeray & Surry Hills

3. Orchard Street Cafe and Elixir Bar

We drove past Orchard St two weekends ago when we were on our way to eat burritos (#balance), and it was super busy! It automatically became a place I want to try. I have had one of their juices at an event before and it was really lovely. I would like to try their food, because I feel any place with a juicer can make good juice, but food is a bit trickier to master! It looks divine and so does their chai!

Location: Bondi Beach

Address: 2 Brighton Boulavard, Bondi Beach, Sydney, NSW

4. Smiths Organic Markets

I haven’t really spent much time in Woollahra, so I haven’t managed to swing by Smith Organic Market, but trust me I will soon. Lots of fresh produce and greenery.

Location: Woollahra

Address: 146 Queen St, Woollahra NSW 2025, Australia

5. Porch & Parlour

Porch & Parlour is SO damn popular. Last time I walked past I wanted to get a coffee there were people sitting in the gutter and basically just exploding out the door. I love coffee, but I would never wait that long for one. I am going to try and go there on a week day instead of a 27+ degree Winter day. Bondi you’re just too cool for me.

Location: North Bondi

Address: 17-18/110 Ramsgate Avenue, North Bondi NSW 2026, Australia

6. Bread & Circus

I have lost count of how many times I have eaten at Bread & Circus, but they impress every single time. I love their breakfast and lunch equally. I basically go there for the plates and lets be honest, the food is very Instagram-able. That’s the entire reason for eating isn’t it? I think I have taken most of my friends their at least once – any excuse to be there I am there.

I highly recommend there watermelon and ginger juice and their ham & goats cheese sandwich box.

Location: Alexandria

Address: 21 Fountain St, Alexandria NSW 2015, Australia

7. Sadhana Kitchen

I have been meaning to get to Sadhana Kitchen for weeeeeks! I think it could be months, even. I have been told their big vege / vegan plates are to die for, as well as their Sadhana CocoWhip.

Location: Enmore

Address: 147 Enmore Rd, Enmore NSW 2042, Australia

8. Egg Of The Universe

This one isn’t too far from where I live now, but someone only suggested it to me last week. I haven’t walked down this side of Darling St – only towards Balmain. This cute place is a Yoga studio and wholefoods cafe in Rozelle and it looks incredible. I think I will wander up for lunch this week! The food looks incredible – plus they deliver too!

Location: Rozelle

Address: 711 Darling St, Rozelle NSW 2039, Australia

9. Earth to Table

I haven’t been here as of yet. Earth To Table serve only the most nutritious organic plant based living foods. I’d love to sink my teeth into one of their chocolate donuts and if that’s all I could eat forever I’d be very happy.

They seem to do a lot of raw cakes – so it would be a great place for an afternoon treat.

Location: Bondi Junction

Address: 85 Bronte Rd, Bondi Junction.

10. Henley’s Wholefoods

I saw Henley’s on Instagram and me including this place in my “Top 10” is based soley on their Instagram images. Goddamn, I am starving right now *licks screen*.

I am impressed by their own images and love that they have taken the time to photograph things nicely.

Location: Bondi Junction

Address: 310-330 Oxford Street, Bondi Junction NSW 2022, Australia
