Thanking god that it’s Friday today just isn’t enough. I need to thank each and every person in the world. Friday I love you, and Friday, will you in fact marry me?
It’s been a fun week here at Substance. I’ve been working on some projects and content for you! We also shot the Spring campaign for ZU Shoes! Jonathan became Derek Zoolander for the day and we modeled alongside each other for the national campaign. I’ve said for a long time he should model and unleash his best blue-steel look on the fashion world, so it was incredibly awesome it finally happened. He also shot the campaign, so let’s all just take a moment and give him a round of applause for being in two places at once.
There has been copious amounts of rainfall, accompanied by gale force winds this past week so it hasn’t given me much time to be able to a) anything but smell rain b) shoot outdoors c) do human things outdoors. Finally the sun showed itself for some brief moments this afternoon, so I yelled and screamed “let’s shoooooot!!!”.
So here you have it – today’s outfit of the proverbial day. It’s a little sporty, but all the best outfits are. May The Label is kicking so many goals for me. Their S/S 14 collection is as on point as they come. If you haven’t already checked them out, it’s definitely worth your while. They’re an Australian label, so it is always amazing to support such incredible local talent.
Pairing a good knit, relaxed shorts, leather and sneakers is so ideal for me. Playing with texture is a wonderful way to add a frisson to a sportswear inspired outfit. Often when you pair sneakers with a relaxed grey marle short it’s a little bit of a no-no. Sports-luxe often looks better when you’re venturing on the luxe side – pairing with stilettos to balance it all out. So if you do want to pair it back with a more casual counterpart, be sure to give the ankles a bit of breathing space and opt for a wedge sneaker to give yourself more length.
Sports-luxe isn’t going anywhere for me, even if it is leaving the fashion world divided. It is the one trend which has well and truly stood the test of time in my wardrobe after all these months. For me when I piece together an outfit with a sporty influence it always seems so perfectly thrown together. Sports-luxe dressing for me is also about the attitude which ensues – I know a pair of slouchy pants or grey marle shorts can be sexy if I pick ymy pieces well. It’s an amazing feeling to feel sexy when you’re not wearing something obviously sexy.
Okay, I have sufficiently said ‘sexy’ enough for one week.
