I woke up last Saturday and my room was spinning – you know the type of spinning after you return home from a massive night out, and you lay there motionless, but the entire room just won’t slow down? Only, I didn’t drink the night before, in fact, I haven’t really drunk anything in the past month and a half…

I got up and complained to Jonathan about how ill I felt and why did I feel so dizzy? I thought I was going to die – there was no reason for me to feel so off! After chatting through with him about my symptoms, he explained I wasn’t dying. Thank god for that!

I am a chronic exaggerator. I think I am dying even when I stub my toe.

So DR Jonathan (NB: He’s as much of a doctor as Google) said what I was, was severely dehydrated. It made so much sense. Last week was so full on – I had full days at Fashion Week and my routine was thrown way out of whack. I was running on little sleep, little food and little hydration. Ask anyone who attended MBFWA and they will all say “I forgot to eat and drink”. There isn’t a great deal of cafes around, and when you’re time poor between shows you literally don’t have time to eat. That sounds stupid I know, but it is the truth.
Wow, so Fashun.

On Saturday after sleeping for most of the morning to try and recover, I went to the fruit market and grocery store to pick up some fresh produce. I needed to refuel and get my vitamin supply back up after an atrocious week of pre-packaged meals! I also picked up a new super stylin’ BRITA Fill & Serve Carafe, I felt like I deserved it seeing as I was nearly dying. It’s a filtered water carafe which is such a great solution for anyone (read: myself) who has trouble sustaining their fluid levels. I find the clear bottle helps me keep track of how much I have consumed all day.

I stopped purchasing (plastic) bottled water a while ago as it was getting too expensive, creates so much waste and it is so detrimental to your health. I now like to use a reusable water bottle and fill it from the tap instead  – the added bonus with my new carafe is there is a filter disc inside the bottle which has a built-in activated carbon filter that guarantees fresh water – that means great tasting water and reduced chlorine & other substances you shouldn’t be ingesting. And the BRITA Memo indicator window at the top of the carafe tells you when it’s time to change the filter!

If you have trouble remembering to drink water, drink on a schedule.

1. Don’t wait until you notice symptoms of dehydration to take action. Actively prevent dehydration by drinking plenty of water. Feeling dizzy is not fun.

2. If you have trouble remembering to drink water, drink on a schedule. For example, drink water when you wake up; at breakfast, lunch, and dinner; and when you go to bed.
